Cavendish Farms Announces Partnership with the Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association to Develop an Outdoor Educational Space

Cavendish Farms and the Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association have collaborated on projects across Prince Edward Island for several years. Cavendish Farms is proud to continue this long-standing partnrship through the development of an outdoor educational learning space at Paynter’s Pond in New London, Prince Edward Island. 

Found between two potato fields, Paynter’s Pond will be transformed into an outdoor classroom designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities for elementary students on Prince Edward Island. Situated on a tributary of the Wilmot River, the shallow pond has historically been a source of unnaturally warm water. Through the removal of the dam and stabilization of the stream bank, the site will be restored to a healthier aquatic ecosystem.  

This environmental enhancement project includes environmental regulators and the local watershed group, transforming two hectares of cleared land into forested land featuring a living laboratory, educational signage, beehives, a sensory herb garden, native plants, trees, shrubs, and much more. 

In addition to promoting environmental education, the creation of the outdoor classroom will support forest growth and improve the surrounding water quality by reducing sediment runoff. This project reflects a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable land management for future generations.
