Ingredients
- 1 bag Cavendish Farms FlavourCrisp Classic Straight Cut Fries
- 4 tbsp butter, divided
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 cup grated Gruyère, divided
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 4 slices deli ham
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tbsp chives (for garnish)
Directions
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F.
- Spread Straight Cut Fries in air fryer basket and cook according to packaging instructions.
- Preheat oven to broil.
- To prep, heat a small saucepan over medium. Add 1 tbsp butter and melt until foamy. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden. Gradually add in milk and bring to a gentle simmer, whisking constantly. Cook until thickened, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat. Whisk in 1/4 cup Gruyère until melted, and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Set Mornay sauce aside.
- Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high. Spread 1/2 tbsp butter on each side of the bread slices and cook until lightly golden, about 2–3 minutes per side. Transfer bread to a work surface. Wipe skillet clean.
- Spread 2 tbsp of sauce evenly over 2 of the toasted bread slices. Top each with 1/4 cup grated Gruyère and 2 slices of ham. Spread mustard on the remaining bread slices and place mustard-side down over ham to form a sandwich. Add the remaining sauce on top and sprinkle with the remaining Gruyère.
- Transfer sandwiches to a lined baking sheet and broil for 5-7 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Meanwhile, in the cleaned nonstick skillet, melt the remaining 1 tbsp butter over medium heat. Crack eggs into skillet and cook until whites are set and yolks remain runny, about 3 minutes.
- Top each sandwich with a fried egg and garnish with chives. Serve immediately with cooked Straight Cut Fries!
